  • Additional support with regards to need and support for the child. This may be spelling intervention, reading intervention, phonological support, support with the short term and working memory and/ or mathematics, for example.
  • Additional support may include bringing the pupil out of the classroom for additional learning support.
  • The student may begin to learn to touch type to assist with difficulties; voice to text technology may also be encouraged.
  • Teachers will be aware of the difficulties that the student has and will differentiate appropriately. For example, mind maps may assist with revision and working memory issues.
  • If students are finding reading difficult, they could be encouraged to use a reader or a C-Pen. Reading apps can also be downloaded.
  • An awareness of the strengths and weaknesses that the pupil has so learning can be targeted to this. The pupil may be extremely visual, for example.
  • Developing on strengths may also enable the student to develop effective learning and revision strategies.
  • The full diagnostic report may allow for assistance with examination technique, students may benefit from mind maps, for example.
  • Those students with processing difficulties may benefit from being given the hand outs before lessons so that they are able to process the information beforehand. Thereby not playing catch up during lesson time.
  • When questioning students at all levels with processing difficulties. It is important that they are given time when answering a question to process the information first.
  • Students with short term and working memory difficulties may benefit from taking photos of instructions and/ or homework with their iPhone.
  • Following a full diagnostic assessment. If the assessor has a working relationship with the school/ college, a Form 8 can be completed. This allows the student to have access arrangements in their GCSE and/or A-Level examinations. This may include extra time, a reader or a scribe, for example. Some students may benefit from the use of a laptop.
